Winterplace Officially Kicks Off 43rd Season

Winterplace, the Southeast's most affordable and accessible ski resort, will officially open for skiing and snowboarding on Saturday, December 6, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. for the 2025/2026 Winter Season. The resort will welcome guests as the season gets underway, opening a trail and chairlift along with the Heaven Holler Terrain Park, featuring several early season features and plenty of space for skiing and snowboarding. Guests can hit the slopes through the following weekend. Snowmaking will continue as conditions allow with more terrain and lifts expected to open on Saturday, December 13.

Winterplace is the most accessible and affordable ski resort in the Southeast. The resort is the perfect place for beginners to learn to ski and more advanced skiers and riders to improve their technique with 100% snowmaking and over 90 skiable acres. Blue Ridge Outdoors named Winterplace “the best resort to learn to ski & snowboard in the Southeast.” It is home to the largest Snow Tubing Park in West Virginia with two Super Tubing Carpet Lifts and up to 14 lanes of tubing fun. The resort offers 27 total trails, 10 lifts and two Terrain Parks. Winterplace typically opens in mid-December and the season lasts into March. The resort is located off Interstate 77, exit 28, Flat Top, WV. It is halfway between Bluefield and Beckley, WV.

The season's opening comes on the heels of national recognition, as Winterplace has earned two Top 3 placements in the 2025 USA TODAY 10BEST Reader's Choice Awards - for Best Ski School and Best Place for Snow Tubing - providing even more momentum heading into the upcoming winter season.

"Our instructors and staff are passionate about helping guests learn to ski and board to create a lifetime of enjoyment," said Josh Faber, general manager for Winterplace. "These awards highlight the dedication of our entire team and the fun, welcoming environment we strive to create for every guest."

Winterplace snowmaking efforts officially kicked off in early November and the team has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season. “We’re excited to open our slopes for the 43rd season," said Faber. "For so many families, Winterplace is a cherished tradition, and we’re proud to play a role in their winter memories year after year.”
