Whitefish Announces Changes To Uphill Skiing For Winter 2020-21

Whitefish Mountain Resort will be asking those who wish to travel uphill on skis this winter to obtain a pass to do so. This is an effort to make sure the Uphill Policy is clearly understood by all users of this activity. The Uphill Policy was created in 2010 to help ensure public safety. The Uphill Policy itself will not change.

“We know this is a popular activity for a select group of avid skiers,” Whitefish Mountain Resort CEO Dan Graves said. “We feel good about our policy which allows this activity but every year we find ourselves needing to educate or remind people of the policy itself as well as the safety concerns surrounding this activity and this seemed like a positive step in that direction. We also believe whatever fees will be collected are nominal given the upkeep that goes into roads, parking lots and trail grooming, all of which make this an easy place to engage in uphill travel.”

For anyone who purchases a 2020-21 Winter Season Pass, the Uphill Pass will be complimentary and can be added on at the time of purchase. Users will simply need to sign a waiver and obtain their Uphill Pass in person at the Whitefish Mountain Resort Base Lodge Tickets and Information Department. Those who have already purchased their season pass can add their uphill pass by going to https://shop.skiwhitefish.com/uphill-access (users must be signed in for the complimentary pass to display).

Those who are not 2020-21 Winter Season Passholders will pay either $12 per day for an Uphill Day Ticket or $100 for an Uphill Only Season Pass. These individuals will also need to sign a waiver and obtain a ticket or pass. All users will be asked to display their ticket or pass on their pack or in an otherwise easily visible location. Tickets and passes will be four inches wide by six inches tall and printed on waterproof card. Winter Passholders and Uphill Only Season Passholders will be issued one pass valid for the whole season. Uphill Ticket purchasers will be issued a ticket valid for the day. Tickets and passes will have the Uphill Policy printed directly on them. Tickets and passes will only be required during the Whitefish Mountain Resort Operating Season.

The change in administration of this program is being made in partnership with the United States Forest Service. The Uphill Policy can always be viewed by visiting skiwhitefish.com and clicking on Uphill Policy under the Safety tab.
