USA Nordic - Weekend Recap: Nordic Combined Oslo World Cups

Men’s and Women’s Nordic Combined wrapped up the FIS World Cups in Oslo, Norway, yesterday. Annika Malacinski and Ben Loomis recorded the highest finishes of the weekend in their respective events, with Malacinski carding a 20th overall finish and Loomis placing 21st during Saturday’s World Cups.

Men's Nordic Combined

The first World Cup of the weekend came on Saturday, March 9th, as Men’s Nordic Combined athletes took the hill for the HS134/10km event. Ben Loomis carded the best jump of the day, going 119.5 meters for 96.8 points, as he landed himself in the 20th position. Niklas Malacinski jumped to the 28th position, as he went 116.5 meters for 92.2 points. Grant Andrews finished in 37th (116.0 meters, 84.7 points), with Stephen Schumann rounding things off in 51st (100.5 meters, 59.4 points). In the 10km race, Loomis placed 21st overall, finishing the course with a total time of 24:31.8. Malaicnski was the final athlete to finish in the points, placing 29th overall, after completing the 10km in 24:32.4. Andrews then finished in 44th (26:06.1), with Schumann coming in at 48th overall (25:06.8).

Men’s Nordic Combined wrapped up competition on Sunday, March 10th, as they competed in another HS134/10km World Cup. Starting the day off on the hill, Malacinski jumped to 28th overall, going 109.0 meters for 87.3 points. Loomis jumped into the 32nd position (107.0 meters, 83.1 points), with Schumann placing 37th (104.5 meters, 76.4 points) and Andrews placing 42nd (101.5 meters, 70.4 points). Malacinski recorded the highest finish of the day during the 10km race, finishing in 31st after completing the course in 25:03.3. Schumann was the final athlete to finish in the points, placing 37th overall, after maintaining his position with a 24:43.5 course time. Loomis finished in 41st (26:04.0), with Andrews rounding things off in 47th (26:25.0), as Men’s Nordic Combined ended their time in Oslo.

Women's Nordic Combined

Annika Malacinski and Alexa Brabec competed in the HS106/5km World Cup competition in Oslo, Norway. Competition got underway on Thursday, March 7th, as athletes took the hill for the Ski Jumping portion of the HS106/5km event. Malacinski jumped to 16th overall, as she went 83.5 meters for 99.3 points. Brabec landed in 26th, as she put together a 74.5 meter jump for 79.8 points. The 5km race was then held on Saturday, March 9th. Malacinski finished 20th overall, as she completed the 5km in 15:59.9, with Brabec close behind in 23rd, as she finished the 5km in 15:12.6.
