USA Nordic - Weekend Preview: Nordic Combined & Ski Jumping World Cups (Feb. 3-5)

The World Cup circuit continues this weekend for USA Nordic, with athletes competing from February 3-5. Men’s and Women’s Ski Jumping will be in Willingen, Germany, with both men and women competing in three World Cup events. Men’s Nordic Combined will then compete in two World Cup events this weekend in Oberstdorf, Germany. USA Nordic’s U.S. Cup Series USA Nordic’s U.S. Cup Series will continue this weekend in Westby, Wisconsin, for Westby’s 100th Anniversary. Men’s Nordic Combined Preview

Prior to traveling to Oberstdorf, Germany, Stephen Schumann competed at the World Cup events in Seefeld, Austria. Schumann was able to score World Cup points during every event in Seefeld, including his first-ever World Cup points on January 27th.

 This will be the first World Cup events for Grant Andrews since competing in Ramsau, Austria, from December 16-18. In Ramsau, Andrews put together 44th and 50th overall finishes, competing in two separate HS98/10km World Cups.

Men’s Ski Jumping Preview

Last weekend, Casey Larson and Decker Dean competed at two World Cups in Kulm Mitterndorf, Austria, prior to traveling to Willingen, Germany. During the first HS235 Qualification, Dean placed 49th and Larson placed 56th, as they were unable to qualify for Saturday’s Individual HS235 Ski Flying World Cup. The next event for Dean and Larson was another HS235 Qualification on Sunday, January 29th. Larson barely missed qualification, placing 41st overall, with Dean was close behind in 47th. Click here to read the full Men’s Ski Jumping Kulm Mitterndorf recap. Andrew Urlaub last competed in Eisenerz, Austria, in two Continental Cup events from January 21-22. During the weekend’s first HS109 Continental Cup on January 21st, Urlaub was able to card a 24th place finish. Urlaub continued to impress during the weekend’s final HS109 Continental Cup event, placing 27th overall. 

Women’s Ski Jumping Preview

Annika Belshaw and Paige Jones last competed January 12-15 at three different World Cup competitions in Zao, Japan. Both Belshaw and Jones were able to qualify for the Individual HS102 World Cup on Friday, January 13th, with Belshaw finishing 37th overall and Jones placing 39th. On Saturday, January 14th, Belshaw and Jones competed in the Super Team HS102 World Cup. Belshaw and Jones placed 12th overall, putting together a total of 241.9 points, after two rounds of jumping. Belshaw and Jones were then able to qualify for the final Individual HS102 World Cup of the weekend, as Belshaw finished 27th overall, notching her third World Cup points of the season. Jones placed 37th overall, after jumping to 83.0 meters for 76.3 points
