Swiss Solar Prize Diploma Goes To Engelberg

The Berglodge Restaurant Ristis was completely renovated in summer 2019. In addition to 220 indoor and 250 outdoor seats and seven guest rooms with a total of 41 beds, investments were made in a photovoltaic system on the roof. These have now been awarded the Swiss Solar Prize 2021 this week.
During the renovation of the Berglodge Restaurant Ristis in 2019, the roof of the building was completely equipped with a photovoltaic system (PV system). "Thanks to its northern orientation, the Brunni area can count on many hours of sunshine and is therefore predestined for the production of solar energy," explains Managing Director Roman Barmettler.
With the new PV system, the energy requirement of the mountain lodge was reduced by 42% from 330,000 kWh to 191,900 kWh. The photovoltaic roof fits perfectly into the nature reserve at 1,600 meters above sea level. The elegant 97 kW PV system generates 73,500 kWh annually and supplies 41% of the total energy requirement of the mountain restaurant CO2-free. In addition, the hot water preparation is supported by an almost 18 m2 solar thermal system. "We are very pleased that we are making a contribution to the promotion of renewable energies", says managing director Roman Barmettler.
The Berglodge Restaurant Ristis was awarded the Solar Prize diploma on November 2, 2021 in Geneva. The building received the award because of the groundbreaking renovation with an architecturally and energetically optimally designed style. "Receiving the solar award is an honor and shows us that we are on the right track," says the managing director happily.
The solar prize is awarded annually by the Swiss Solar Agency, on behalf of the Federal Office for Energy, EnergySwitzerland, the cantonal energy directors and cantonal energy delegates, as well as in cooperation with the supporting solar prize partners, associations and associations.
The PV system on the Ristis is popular in the mountain railway industry. "We have already welcomed a number of businesses that are currently working on the renovation of their mountain restaurants," says Roman Barmettler happily.
