Swedish Ski Fed Looks Back On Another Fantastic Alla På Snö Season

We look back on the 16th edition of Alla på snö – a season filled with joy, commitment and cooperation across the country, even though the availability of snow sometimes put us to the test.

"It's another great season we look back on", say Susanne Ripa and Fredrik Blank, operations managers for Alla på snö.

It has probably not escaped anyone's notice that it has been a snow-poor winter in large parts of the country. Despite the weather challenges with temperatures above zero and a lack of snow, 41 facilities around the country have fought, created solutions and stayed open – all to welcome thousands of children and young people to the magic of winter.

"The success of the season would not have been possible without all the boundlessly committed facilities, slopes, trails, rentals, lift and operations staff. We are so incredibly impressed and humbly grateful," say Susanne and Fredrik.

National initiative with local roots

Alla på snö is a national cross-sport activity within the Swedish Ski Association to make skiing and snowboarding for children and young people accessible – always with a local focus. This season the activity has been active in 49 municipalities , from Gislaved in the south to Gällivare in the north.

Together with local slopes and trails, high schools, elementary schools, municipalities, teachers and educators, education teams, associations and clubs, friends and enthusiasts, Alla på snö has made snow fun possible and created new memories for over 35,000 children and young people during the season.

In addition , 1,355 upper secondary and university students have been trained as leaders through 51 practical and an equal number of theoretical training opportunities – training that is in line with the curriculum's goals around leadership and pedagogy.

Snow fun that makes a difference

Everyone on snow contributes to positive development for both the individual and society at large. It's about more than just skiing or snowboarding – it's about creating opportunities, building self-esteem and inspiring the joy of movement during the winter.

"It is important that we all help each other and contribute to children and young people finding and discovering fun activities that make physical activity possible even in winter," says Fredrik.

And the feedback from participants shows how much of a difference Alla på snö actually makes.

One parent says:"My son is in fourth grade and it was wonderful to see his joy at trying out cross-country skiing. I am convinced that initiatives like these lead to children being exposed to sports and outdoor activities, which in turn leads to more active, happy and healthy children. Several of my son's classmates had never skied before and would not have had the opportunity to try it without the Alla på snö initiative."

A teacher describes how the initiative inspired students long after the All in the Snow Day itself: "Everyone on snow made five students go to the Leisure Bank in another municipality on their own, borrow skis and equipment, talk to the youth center for the high school and manage to get lift passes for the ski slope. And how they have been skiing! During the sports holidays and weeks after. They came running and showed off one trick they filmed after the others. So these are students who had never been on skis before, their families have no way of offering this, and now you have opened this door to winter outdoor life."

More children on the move doesn't just mean joy in the present - it also means better public health in the long term, stronger community and increased accessibility to our Swedish winter sports.

For everyone – for real

All on Snow continues to develop and broaden its operations. An important focus is to offer skiing and snowboarding experiences for students in adapted elementary schools. This season, over 400 students from 25 schools have been able to try skiing with the help of adapted aids such as bi-skis and cross-country sleds.

In parallel, quality assurance and capacity have been in focus. Interest is growing and Alla på snö is working actively to meet demand, without compromising on quality or sustainability.

"For a few years now, we have been stable in the number of municipalities and children we meet in the operation. The demand is enormous and it is important that we ensure that we have the capacity, quality and sustainability, both to maintain what we have but also to grow," says Susanne.

New initiatives and local development. The season has also brought news and expansion, such as…

  • Expanded the snowboarding initiative we initiated in Vännäs last year. This year we have doubled both the number of days and children together with Liljaskolan's high school students and Middagsberget. An Alla på snö bank with snowboarding equipment in Vännäs has also been created. Read more about Alla på snö in Vännäs .
  • For the first time in the history of Alla på snö, fourth graders got the chance to try ski jumping. Sollentuna Backhopparklubb (BHK) welcomed nearly 60 children to a day filled with excitement and nervousness, but above all – strengthened self-confidence. Read more about when ski jumping made its entrance at Alla på snö.
  • Arboga Alpine and Teknikbacken have started Alla på snö in Arboga for the first time together with leaders from Realgymnasiet in Örebro. In Arboga we now also have one of our 11 Alla på snö banks, which has made the operation possible this year, but also in the future.

Young leaders continue to inspire – as in the Young Skiers initiative , where former Alla på snö leaders started and ran their own ski school this season.

Many thanks!

Increasing the amount of physical activity in schools, inspire the joy of movement, give more people the chance to ski and snowboard and, not least, show the way to the local ski and snowboard facilities in the country – all that Alla på snö is about.

With that said, we would like to extend a big thank you to everyone involved – without all of us together this would not have been possible. We look forward to next season!
