Snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington Joins Bent Metal Binding Works Team

Idaho-native, Kaitlyn Farrington, has now joined the Bent Metal Binding Works team.

Rooted in the champagne powder region of Idaho, she comfortably navigates terrain in all dimensions. She found her feet on the world’s stage and took gold in the halfpipe in the Sochi Olympics. Farrington is left-handed and uses a goofy stance. She became the first women's rider to perform a backside 1080. She goes about 9 feet high above the edge of the half-pipe, but considers herself as a more technical rider in order to make up for her height. Farrington has had five wrist surgeries

On January 16, 2015, Farrington announced via Instagram of her retirement from professional snowboarding at only 25 years of age. In October 2014, Farrington was involved in a fall in Austria while trying to execute a frontside 360 off a small jump. Once returning home to Salt Lake City, Farrington went to get an MRI, to find that she had been diagnosed with congenital cervical stenosis, a congenital spine condition that she has had since birth. Doctors told her that competitive snowboarding would put her at great risk of extreme injury due to the condition. Farrington has said "I can walk. I can still snowboard, I just have to keep my feet on the ground".

Under the spotlight of the press, Kaitlyn genuinely put a face of positivity and dedication to snowboarding for a world of outsiders looking in.

Yeah sure, life gives you lemons but rarely do they threaten to pull you from your passion and work that you’ve perfected over your lifetime. It takes a special type of person to not give up their dream completely. For Kaitlyn, the choice was simple, and the path to re-invent her image as a pro snowboarder was clear. Out of the high-consequence air of the 22′ pipe, Kaitlyn found her kicks climbing the peaks of the Northwest, mastering touring and big mountain descents, hitchhiking, drinking wine, and settling Catan all along the way.

She’s an undeniable force to be reckoned with, and she is going to find a way to do exactly what she wants. Unreal Snowboarder, Unreal human being…

Putting the POW in Powerhouse, Bent Metal is excited to add such a natural fit to the  team. Welcome Kaitlyn Farrington, her expertise, infinite thirst for the next adventure, and the endless smile on her face.
