Snow Peak, the innovative outdoor lifestyle company, kicked off a year of sales team growth by adding Jason McGibbon as chief revenue officer. Starting this month, McGibbon will enhance the leadership team, helping to drive the brand’s expansion in 2020 as it celebrates 20 years in the US. This new hire will serve as just the beginning in a wave of new additions Snow Peak is looking to make to the Portland-based team in this quarter.
A sales and outdoor industry veteran, McGibbon most recently led Yakima Product’s sales organization as vice president of sales. During his time at Yakima, he drove a sales team that achieved record growth and expansion into new market sectors. McGibbon’s wide-ranging experience in the outdoor industry runs the gamut from ski guide to customer service manager, entrepreneur to agency creator; all of which he leverages today, shaping his role as a leader. McGibbon has extensive sales management experience over decades of progressive leadership roles at brands such as The North Face, New Balance Performance Outerwear, Sierra Designs, Kelty, Mission Playground and Mountain Hardwear.
”In 2019, Snow Peak began adding talent to functional teams across our US operations as strategic investment in our North American growth,” said Matt Liddle, chief operating officer at Snow Peak USA. “As we start 2020, I’m incredibly delighted to welcome Jason to our Snow Peak team. His passion, experience, and leadership will be a major catalyst for growth as we move forward into the future of Snow Peak USA.“
Beyond professional accomplishments, McGibbon has long been committed to contributing to the future of the outdoor industry, advising on numerous boards, attending leadership conferences, and advocating for increased outdoor participation through organizations such as PeopleForBikes, Oregon’s Outdoor Coalition, Portland State University’s Athletic and Outdoor program and serving as a mentor through the Skip Yowell’s Future Leadership Academy.
At home in Portland, OR, with his wife Terra and two daughters, McGibbon enjoys spending as much time as possible outside, including paddling, fly fishing, hiking, backpacking and climbing. As well as pedaling bikes across all surfaces, to trailgating and camping with friends and family.
“I have always been passionate about how a product can enhance one’s experiences outdoors,” said McGibbon. “Having the opportunity to communicate how Snow Peak thoughtfully encourages people to shift away from the stresses of life and share time outside, is incredibly inspiring. I could not be more excited to join such a bold, courageous and passionate group of individuals, working to deliver a distinct experience to both customers and consumers alike, allowing them to connect with nature and build memorable and powerful bonds.”
To support this year of major expansion for Snow Peak, the brand is looking to hire a number of sales positions, with a focus on sales management, dealer services, customer service and multiple sales agencies across channels of distribution. Snow Peak’s journey began in 1958, when its founder Yukio Yamai, an accomplished Japanese mountaineer, created his own line of superior gear out of the dissatisfaction with available products.
Yamai‘s natural inspiration came from his life in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. A range of mountains that rise up to an altitude of 1000m form a wall on the boundary between Niigata and Gunma prefectures, and the rivers and streams born from the peaks and valleys flow out to the East Japan Sea. It is this place that inspired Yukio, and to this day continues to inspire all of the products that come from Snow Peak.
