Ski Flight Free Launches With A New Climate Campaign

Ski Flight Free (www.skiflightfree.org) is a new campaign that encourages skiers to travel to the Alps without flying.

This not-for-profit independent campaign was started by Iain Martin, who works as a journalist and digital marketing consultant within the ski industry.

Independent research* by climate change consultancy Anthesis has shown that travelling to a ski resort by train generates less than one fifth of the emissions of flying. Even four people travelling by car can cut emissions by a third compared to flying.

Martin said: “The goal of Ski Flight Free is purely to try and reduce CO2 emissions by skiers travelling to ski resorts. Climate change represents an existential thread to the ski industry. Time is running out to prevent irreversible damage to the planet. We need governments to make systemic change, but as the inspirational Greta Thunberg points out: “No one is too small to make a difference”.

Skiers can make a difference by choosing to travel by train or car instead of flying. Even if it’s only once, they will still be reducing CO2 emissions and making a difference.
