Shiffrin, Kim, Diggins & Randall Nominated For Sportswoman Of The Year

Four U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes have been nominated for the 2018 "Sportswoman of the Year" awards, presented annually by the Women's Sports Foundation since 1993. Sportswoman of the Year is awarded to both an individual and a team.

Two women are nominated in the individual category: three-time Olympic medalist Mikaela Shiffrin (Avon, Colo.), alpine skiing; and Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim (Torrance, Calif.), snowboarding. Olympic gold medalists Jessie Diggins (Afton, Minn.) and Kikkan Randall (Anchorage, Alaska), cross country skiing, are nominated for the team category.

Sixteen of the outstanding nominees for the 2018 Sportswoman of the Year awards, presented annually by the Women’s Sports Foundation since 1993, are Team USA athletes.

Sportswoman of the Year is presented to both an individual and a team recipient. 

Eight U.S. women are nominated in the individual category: three-time Olympic medalist Mikaela Shiffrin, alpine skiing; two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields, boxing; Hannah Roberts, an Olympic hopeful in BMX park, which makes its debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020; eight-time Paralympic medalist Oksana Masters, Nordic skiing; two-time Paralympic gold medalist Brenna Huckaby, snowboarding; Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim, snowboarding; three-time Olympic medalist Simone Manuel, swimming and Olympic silver medalist Shalane Flanagan, track and field.

In the team category, there are also eight Team USA nominees: three-time Olympic gold medalist Sylvia Fowles, basketball; three-time Olympic medalist Elana Meyers Taylor and 2018 silver medalist Lauren Gibbs, bobsled; Olympic gold medalists Jessie Diggins and Kikkan Randall, cross-country skiing; two-time Olympic medalist Maia Shibutani, figure skating; Olympic gold medalist Maddie Rooney, ice hockey; Olympian Julie Ertz, soccer; 2020 Olympic hopeful Haylie McCleney, softball and two-time Olympic gold medalist Maggie Steffens, water polo.

An American woman has won the past six individual Sportswoman of the Year Awards, and every team award since 1993. The winners will be announced at the 39th Annual Salute to Women in Sports ceremony in New York City on Oct. 17.
