Schilthornbahn AG Reports Excellent Summer Results

Schilthornbahn AG looks back on a successful summer. In almost all business areas, the numbers rose to the highs of 2018 and 2019. The construction work for the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX, which was ongoing parallel to the increased demand, presented employees with major challenges.

After a very good winter season 2022/2023, Schilthornbahn AG can also look back on an excellent summer season: the frequencies and number of visitors on the cable car rose during the summer months practically to the highs of 2018 and 2019. From May to September there were 1,612,417 guest trips counted, which corresponds to an increase of 28 percent compared to the previous year. Frequencies on the Mürren-Allmendhubel funicular also increased by a significant 28.6 percent to 79,262 trips compared to the previous year. Similar positive growth rates were achieved in the catering establishments. Only in the Shops division was there a loss. This slight decrease is due to the relocation of the Skyline Shop from the Mürren station to the Hotel Blumental as part of the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX construction work. In addition, the Skyline Top Shop on the Schilthorn had to be reduced in size by a third due to construction.

Continued strong demand from the markets

The encouraging figures are based, on the one hand, on the consistently good summer weather. On the other hand, there is still broad demand from all local and long-distance markets. “We are seeing very high demand from all markets,” confirms Christoph Egger, director of the Schilthornbahn, “since this summer the first guests and groups from China have been visiting our excursion mountain again, although at a more modest level than before the pandemic.” Egger continues.

Challenge SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX

In parallel with the strong demand, large-scale construction work for the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project has been carried out at all stations since spring. Coping with the intensive excursion operations despite construction sites and staff shortages posed major challenges for the employees. “However, you have mastered this difficult situation excellently,” praises Egger, “so a big thank you goes to everyone involved.” The majority of guests also positively appreciated the efforts to ensure a clear separation between construction sites and guest areas. The excursion experience was hardly affected.

Construction project on track

Construction work also benefited from the beautiful, dry summer weather. This meant that the 2023 construction program could be adhered to. The generational project was started in March with the dismantling of the “Käthi” transport cable car. By the end of November, among other things, all three supports will be fully assembled and will provide a good view of the route of the new lifts.
