Schilthornbahn 20xx Project To Use New Cable Car Cabins With A ’Convertible’ Feeling

The new cable car cabins of the Schilthornbahn 20XX rail project are looking for more space and comfort. Large, partly open windows and integrated heating systems also provide a better view. Goods and goods on the lowest section are transported fully automatically using underload containers. Carvatech from Austria is the supplier and manufacturer of the vehicles.
The new cabins of the Schilthornbahn 20XX cable car, two per section in number, promise more space and comfort. Each person has 25 percent more space than in today's cabins. The vehicles can accommodate 85 people each between Stechelberg and Mürren. There are 100 people each on the upper two sections between Mürren and the Schilthorn. Panes down to the cabin floor guarantee an almost unrestricted view. Thanks to wide doors of up to three meters, getting out is quick and easy. The simple, angular design fits elegantly into the rugged rocky landscape.
Driving with a convertible feeling
The new cabins between Stechelberg and Mürren as well as Mürren and Birg can be driven with the window open. By lowering the windows on the mountain and valley sides to chest height, a convertible feeling is achieved. This function not only supports the ventilation and, in summer, the cooling of the cabins, but also enables unadulterated photos and a feeling for the extreme altitude and gradient.
Integrated heating systems for more comfort and better visibility
All cabins have underfloor heating and integrated window heaters, which are charged in the stations. However, the heating systems are not intended for heating the cabins. Rather, a heated floor protects against the adhesion of snow and ice in winter, as well as heated windows against icing or misting. This is the only way to always have a clear view of the surrounding mountain panorama.
Goods transport with underload
The cabins on the Stechelberg - Mürren route are designed for the transport of goods with underload: All goods and goods are transported in a separate container suspended from the cabs. With an automated standard transport, containers with a maximum payload of two and a half tons are transported. Special transports can also take place outside of the regular operating hours. These manually guided special transports can carry goods up to a maximum of six tons. Guests and their luggage in the container are always transported at the same time.
Important partner found in cabin construction
The supplier and manufacturer of the cabins is Carvatech from Oberwies in Austria. As one of the leading cableway cabin builders, the company was able to convince with its innovative, design-oriented lightweight aluminum construction technology and first-class quality.
