Schenker Hydraulik AG Works On Savognin Lift With Garaventa

In collaboration with Garaventa, Schenker Hydraulik AG was commissioned to overhaul the cable tensioning cylinder of the Somtgant-Piz Martegnas cable car in Savognin. The cable tensioning cylinder, with a stroke of 5.9 meters, plays a crucial role in the safe and reliable operation of the 6-seater chairlift.

The cylinder provides the necessary tension to the conveyor rope and is therefore constantly subjected to high mechanical stress. A comprehensive overhaul was required to ensure trouble-free operation during the winter.

Work performed during the revision

The following work steps were carried out precisely and professionally during the revision:

  • Replacement of all seals: The old seals were completely replaced. Sealing surfaces were thoroughly cleaned and professionally reworked for optimal sealing performance.
  • Piston rod straightened and hard-chromed: The piston rod showed slight deformation and had to be straightened. It was then re-hard-chromed, ground, and polished.
  • Fall protection overhaul: The safety-relevant fall protection system (rod clamping) was dismantled and overhauled by our partner and tested for full functionality.
  • Cylinder tube honed and reworked: By honing the cylinder tube and reworking the sealing seats, the internal geometry of the cylinder could be brought back into the required tolerance range.
  • Assembly and completion of the overhaul

The subsequent installation of the cable tensioning cylinder in Savognin was carried out by the specialists from Garaventa AG themselves.

Thanks to the close collaboration with Garaventa AG and the technical expertise of the Schenker Hydraulik AG team, the overhaul was completed on schedule. The overhauled cable tensioning cylinder is now ready for long-term use under demanding conditions in the Savognin mountain region.

“ We appreciate having a competent and reliable partner in Schenker Hydraulik AG, who provides us with prompt and uncomplicated support for the overhaul of clamping cylinders during bottlenecks .” Pascal Meier - Garaventa AG
