Record Winter And Millions In Investments: Lenzerheide Bergbahnen Continues On Its Successful Path

Thanks to a record winter, Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG achieved a strong result in 2024/25 with over CHF 40 million in sales, invested over CHF 11 million in infrastructure and digitalization, plans a further CHF 15 million, and is facing a change in management.

Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG (LBB) looks back on an extremely successful 2024/25 financial year. Following the previous year's record result, another record result is on the horizon. Despite weather-related challenges in the summer, the winter business impressed with excellent visitor numbers and a new sales record.

Strong winter business compensates for mixed summer

With 1,421,657 ski days, the 2024/25 winter season saw a further increase of 1.3% compared to the previous year. Arosa Lenzerheide was one of the first major ski resorts in Switzerland to open all of its facilities before the holidays. Thanks to artificial snowmaking, meticulous slope grooming, and numerous days of good weather, excellent conditions prevailed until the late end of the season on April 21.

Summer 2024, however, fell short of expectations due to weather conditions, with 167,135 visitors, representing a decline of 14.3% compared to the previous year. Overall, however, the winter season significantly more than compensated for these losses.

Sales at record level – over CHF 40 million possible for the first time

LBB expects a new sales record in its main winter business – the CHF 40 million mark could be exceeded for the first time. The catering operations also achieved record results. Although higher expenses for snowmaking and energy supply due to the lack of snow in the winter led to additional costs, a strong annual result is forecast at the EBITDA level.

Investments and future plans

Over CHF 11 million was invested in the ski and excursion area this year, particularly in the replacement of the Stätzertäli chairlift, which ensured smooth operation from the outset.

A further CHF 15 million in investments are planned for the 2025/26 financial year. The focus is on:

  • the expansion of the snowmaking infrastructure, especially at the Valbella ski lift,
  • the modernization of valley stations, toilet facilities and control rooms,
  • Improvements around the Scharmoin middle station,
as well as targeted investments in employee accommodation, including the renovation of the Rätia staff house and the planning of 29 new studios at the Rothorn valley station.
  • Milestones were also achieved in digitalization: The new online shop for annual passes introduces a customer-friendly system that will soon also include bike tickets. A corresponding app is currently under development.

Change of leadership at LBB

CEO Thomas Küng will leave the company at the end of April 2025. Under his leadership, LBB achieved the four most successful years in its history. Chairman of the Board of Directors Felix Frei will also resign from his position at the upcoming Annual General Meeting on September 26, 2025. Succession planning for both positions is underway.

outlook

The 2025 summer season will begin with weekend operations on May 17, 2025 (Rothorn 1 gondola lift). Depending on weather conditions, the Tgantieni and Scalottas chairlifts will operate one week later. A special highlight will be the completion and ceremonial opening of the new Stone Gnome Trail on September 27, 2025, just in time for the start of the fall break.

Invitation to the General Meeting

The 20th Annual General Meeting of Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG will take place on September 26, 2025. The invitation, including the annual report and program information, will be sent to shareholders at the beginning of September.
