Quick Hits: Paralympic Highlights 2018

The PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games came to an end on 18th March with a festive Closing Ceremony after ten days of fabulous action.

Athletes representing 49 National Paralympic Committees competed in the Games. 26 out of the 49 delegations won at least one medal, beating the mark set at Lillehammer 1994, with a record number of 20 taking gold.

There were a total of 80 medal events with 30 in Alpine Skiing, 20 in Cross-Country Skiing, 10 in Snowboard, 18 in Biathlon, one in Para Ice Hockey, and one in Para Curling.

Inside the Fence – All good things come to an end

A number of athletes recently announced their retirement in Cross-Country Skiing. FIS sat down with four of them – Anna Haag, Emil Joensson (both SWE), Aino Kaisa Saarinen (FIN) and Kikkan Randall (USA) – as their FIS World Cup careers came to a close.

National Championships underway

After the 2017/18 FIS World Cup and various FIS Continental Cup seasons have wrapped up, most top athletes returned home to compete in their National Championships which serve as the culmination of a long winter season on different continents and countries.

Behind the Scenes – Åre we at the World Championships yet?

Åre (SWE) will host of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships next season and all the courses and infrastructurewere tested at this year’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals.

It is clear in this edition of Behind the Scenes that the athletes and Organising Committee can't wait for the upcoming big event.

Berthod takes over as President of Audi FIS Ski World Cup St. Moritz

Martin Berthod was recently appointed President of the Organising Committee of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup in St. Moritz (SUI).

He follows in the footsteps of Hugo Wetzel, who chaired the Committee for the past 26 years, including the Organising Committees of the 2003 and 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. Wetzel shaped the events like no other and lead both editions of the Championships to outstanding success.

Berthod served as Chief of Race during the 2003 and 2017 Championships and brings a wealth of experience in the implementation of Alpine World Cup and World Championship races. Thomas Rechberger who served as Head of Finances during the 2017 Championships, was appointed Vice-President.
