Pistenbully 100 E Proof Tested In Neuss Indoor Snow Centre

The success of the PistenBully 600 E+ with a diesel-electric drive that was introduced in 2012 clearly shows that the future belongs to alternative drive systems in winter sports too. With the presentation of the PistenBully 100 E prototype in May, Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG has taken the next step. The first all-electric snow groomer is now being proof tested in the indoor ski hall in Neuss, Germany.

Environmental technology – made in Germany

The question of whether it will soon be possible to groom slopes 100% emission-free was already answered in May this year with a clear "yes!" . As this was when the PistenBully 100 E was presented at INTERALPIN 2019, the leading international trade fair for alpine technologies. With the prototype of the first all-electric powered snow groomer, Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG is demonstrating its commitment to making winter sports environmentally sustainable.

Extensive testing

The PistenBully 100 E has already been on the snow and successfully completed the initial pre-tests. Now the snow groomer is initially being tested for performance, reliability and endurance by our long-time partner in the indoor ski hall in Neuss, Germany. There, the worldwide first electrically driven snow groomer will be proven in daily operations, as only a perfected technology will meet the high quality standards of Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG

The indoor ski hall is very interesting as a testing ground because it is basically ruled by laboratory-like conditions where the PistenBully is exposed to real demands every night. As with cars, the range is currently still limited. Yet, the PistenBully 100 E can be extensively tested in the indoor ski hall during the 2.5–3 hours that it is currently running on average. With around 80 ski halls worldwide, there's a lot of potential here.

Zero percent emissions - 100 percent PistenBully

For the first PistenBully 100 E, the usable energy capacity of the battery is 126 kWh with a rated voltage of 400V. The charging time is of particular interest. After 5 hours, the SoC (State of Charge) is at 75%. After 6.5 hours, the battery is completely charged. In theory, this provides an average driving time of 2.5 to 3 hours. 100 is the number that says it all when it comes to the PistenBully 100 E: 100% emission-free and still a 100% genuine PistenBully. With the first all-electric powered snow groomer, Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG is now starting on a path to a cleaner future!

Successful partnership: PistenBully and Alpenpark Neuss

Since its opening on January 4th 2001, the Neuss indoor ski hall has become well-known far beyond the borders of the Rhineland as a year-round open ski resort. Since then, the saying has been: ski and sledding fun – 365 days a year. There are two T bars and one quad chair lift that will comfortably take you to the "Bergstation", the 300 meter long and up to 100 meter wide powder ski slope. There is a separate slope for children and beginners to practice on. The 4,000 m² area provides the ideal conditions for trying out skiing or snowboarding for the first time. The children's and beginner's slope has two conveyor belt lifts to take you to the top. Several sledding hills, a curling stone arena and an ice bar complete the winterpark's experience. Alpenpark Neuss and PistenBully have been partners for 20 years already – and together they are now heading down a path to an environmentally sustainable future in the snow.
