Michael Kennedy To Step Down as CEO Of Snow Australia In April 2026

After more than two decades at the helm of Snow Australia, Michael Kennedy has advised the Board that he will step down as Chief Executive Officer following the Snow Australia Awards in April 2026.

Michael is the longest-serving National Sporting Organisation (NSO) CEO in Australian sport history. Over his 23-year tenure, he has overseen a transformational era for Australian snow sports, uniting the sport under a single national body, partnering to deliver sustained Olympic and Paralympic success, and leading major infrastructure projects including the landmark $13 million National Snowsports Training Centre in Jindabyne.

Reflecting on his decision, Kennedy said: “It simply feels like the right time. Snow Australia is in a strong position, with a talented team of leaders ready to guide the organisation into its next chapter. After more than two decades in the role, I feel immense gratitude for the privilege to serve a sport and community that I care so deeply about.”

“While this marks the close of a significant chapter, I am confident that Snow Australia’s best days are ahead. Our systems, people and partnerships are strong, and I look forward to seeing this organisation thrive.”

“Everything we have achieved has been made possible by the people. From the Board and our dedicated Snow Australia team to athletes and coaches, resorts, government and institute partners, and of course our volunteers. There will be time for reflection, thanks, and celebration later in the year, but for now my focus is firmly on supporting our athletes and teams as they prepare for the Milan–Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Commenting on the announcement, Snow Australia Chair Daniel Bosco said: “Michael has been instrumental in shaping the organisation and the broader snow sports system we have today. He led the organisation through unification from what was once a fragmented sport and helped build a strong, collective voice — one that government, stakeholders, and our members now recognise and respect.

"His leadership has also been central to the success of major projects such as the National Snowsports Training Centre in Jindabyne, and to securing unprecedented government and private investment in training infrastructure that will benefit athletes for generations.”

“Michael has worked closely with the Board over a number of years to ensure this transition is managed in a considered and orderly way. That long-term planning has allowed Snow Australia to strengthen governance, develop internal leadership capability, and maintain stability across the organisation as we prepare for the next phase.”

“Snow Australia is well prepared for the next chapter. The Board will now undertake a thorough and considered search for the right Chief Executive to lead the organisation into the future. On behalf of the Board and the snow sports community, I thank Michael sincerely for his leadership and service, and wish him every success in what comes next.”

The Snow Australia Board will soon announce the process for appointing a new Chief Executive.

Michael has committed to supporting the transition and ensuring the organisation continues to thrive as it enters its next strategic phase.
