Loon Mountain Resort Offers Free Downhill Bike Lessons

This summer, Loon is offering free downhill mountain biking lessons—inviting riders of all ages to experience the sport with free 30-minute introductory lessons. These beginner-friendly group sessions provide an easy and accessible way to try downhill mountain biking for the first time. Set against the stunning backdrop of the White Mountain National Forest, it’s an exciting way to explore the mountain and discover a new outdoor adventure.

Yes, Free.

Held on Sarsaparilla Skills Zone, Loon’s beginner-friendly green trail, free First Turn lessons will focus on the fundamentals of bike handling, balance, and safety techniques. The goal is to create a welcoming and approachable environment for guests who are new to mountain biking and curious to give it a try.

No reservations are required—First Turn lessons are available on a walk-up basis at various times throughout the day, with a check-in process beforehand to get guests started. It’s a simple, commitment-free way to try something new. While the lesson itself is free, a front-suspension bike is required. Rentals are available and can be reserved in advance for as low as $25.

Whether you're a curious newcomer or just looking to try something different this summer, First Turn lessons are the gateway to discovering the excitement of mountain biking at Loon.

Downhill Discovery

For guests who want to keep the momentum going after First Turn, Loon offers Downhill Discovery—a next-step lesson package designed to help new riders build confidence and continue learning.

Starting at $79 for ages 12 & under and $99 for adults, this package includes a lesson, full-suspension bike rental and two hours of lift-accessed riding on the high-speed Kancamagus 8 chairlift.

Downhill Discovery picks up where First Turn leaves off, starting on the beginner trail Sarsaparilla Skills Zone before moving on to Mainline— a mellow, beginner-focused trail that winds across the mountain with plenty of pull-offs for breaks along the way. Instructors will guide guests through basic downhill techniques in a supportive, group setting.

Downhill Discovery is offered during two time slots on days the Bike Park is open and must be reserved online. The two-hour window begins with the guest’s first ticket scan—giving the freedom to learn and progress at their own pace.
