Loon Mountain Resort And Partners Announce Installation Of New Gondola

Loon Mountain Resort, in partnership with RiverWalk Resort and South Peak Resort, has announced the upcoming installation of a new pulse-movement gondola lift—the first of its kind in New England. Installation of the new lift is scheduled to begin in spring 2025 which will connect RiverWalk with the base of Loon’s newly-expanded South Peak terrain—and nearby Timbertown Quad chairlift. The lift is projected to open during the 2025/26 winter season.

“Innovation and access are areas we continue to focus on. This lift has been long dreamt of—dating back to the late ‘80s—and would not be possible without collaboration with RiverWalk and South Peak resorts.” says Brian Norton, Loon’s president and general manager.

Designed by Doppelmayr, the fixed-grip pulse gondola lift will cover nearly 1,300 feet in total distance and carry twelve (12) of its Omega IV cabins. The fully enclosed cabins will transport up to eight passengers both east and west, over the Pemigewasset River. Cabins will be grouped in pods of three. All cabins feature floor-to-ceiling windows to provide scenic views in every season. The west lift terminal will be on the grounds of RiverWalk, and the east terminal will be located in Escape Route Parking Lot B.

RiverWalk Resort is located in downtown Lincoln, NH and is nearing completion of a major expansion with a suite of amenities including an on-site winery, a spa and more. Providing car-free access to and from the mountain will be another unique attraction for visitors. "This gondola is key to completing our vision,” commented Dennis Ducharme, president of RiverWalk Resort. “Connecting our guests and residents to the wider amenities and experiences offered both at Loon and South Peak will enhance the experience for guests of each property, making every visit extraordinary. It's about creating a vibrant, interconnected community."

The new gondola will be a centerpiece for South Peak Resort also. The company is building on a long-term vision to develop a resort village at the base of South Peak offering shopping, dining, entertainment and more. “This is a keystone project for us. Partnering with Loon and RiverWalk on this lift demonstrates our collective commitment to expand the offerings in this great town of Lincoln.” Mark Bogosian, developer at South Peak Resort.

Further details around guest access and ridership will be announced as the project nears completion.
