Loan Waiver To Skilifte Mörlialp AG Of CHF1,200,000.00 Approved

In the municipal ballot on June 29, 2025, the Giswil electorate approved a loan waiver to Skilifte Mörlialp AG in the amount of CHF 1,200,000.00.
In June 2016, Skilifte Mörlialp AG requested a loan from the municipality of up to CHF 1,200,000 to restructure its debt and stabilize its financial situation. The Giswil electorate granted the municipal council credit and authorization for a long-term, interest-free loan of up to CHF 1,200,000 to Skilifte Mörlialp AG.
By letter dated December 13, 2024, the Board of Directors of Skilifte Mörlialp AG submitted a request to the municipal council for the loan to be forgiven. Since the loan forgiveness is not within the competence of the municipal council, but rather that of the electorate, the council ordered a municipal ballot vote for June 29, 2025.
With 802 (73.38%) yes votes versus 291 (26.62%) no votes, the Giswil electorate approved the loan forgiveness, with a voter turnout of 40.12%. The loan forgiveness will clean up the municipality's balance sheet. Due to the valuation allowance already applied, the loan forgiveness will have no impact on the income statement and will not be subject to any additional burden on the 2025 financial statements.
