Les Arcs Opens This Weekend

With the UK to lift ban on non-essential travel to up to 90 countries, Britons who might have thought their summer holiday was off will be looking at potential destinations for a summer getaway where they can stay as safe as possible.

Summer 2020 might be the time to try an Alpine destination where fresh air and outdoor activities dominate. French resort Les Arcs not only offers a long list of outdoor pursuits for all levels, it also has an abundance of self-catering apartments and can be accessed in around 11 hours by car from the south of England or by train

Les Arcs has put in several measures to ensure the safety of holidaymakers, including disinfection of all public areas around the resort and compulsory wearing of a face masks on lifts. The funicular, buses and all rental equipment such as bikes and scooters will also be disinfected. Hand sanistiser will be provided at all lifts, plus Les Arcs will provide a ‘health contact’ for any questions holidaymakers may have during their stay.

It is the space, however, which makes Les Arcs a really attractive choice for people ready to take a holiday and escape the pressures of life. The resort offers 35 marked hiking trails – suitable for all levels of walkers. It also boasts 149km of mountain bike trails, with many of the cross country mountain bike trails accessible without using the lifts. E-bikes might be another good alternative for those wanting to explore the area without using lifts. As the popularity of e-bikes rises every year, there are plenty of places to rent and five trails dedicated to e-bikes.

For those looking for something a little different, Les Arcs offers an Alpine Pastures Guided Tour (with physical distancing measures in place), an outdoor Classical Music Festival from 17th July – 2nd August and electric scooters (Arc’En Trot) which can be used to take a tour around the mountain. Not to forget Les Arcs’ 80 hectare golf course with two course options – a pastoral 18-hole course and a compact 8-hole course option.

Les Arcs is a brilliant destination for families, with accommodation for all budgets, including both hotels and self-catering apartments. A big attraction of Les Arcs for families is their multi-activity ‘Hero’ programmes, suitable for all ages and levels. The Hero programmes give access to a multitude of activities – from trail running to archery and from mountain biking to mini golf.

For children, the Hero Camps, which include coaching, have been modified for this summer in line with current safety measures and to ensure everyone is protected. Within the Hero Camps there will be smaller groups and increased numbers of coaches, ensuring children have the same unique experiences and try a range of activities, in a safe environment.

“We are hugely optimistic about this summer” said Eric Chevalier, Director of Les Arcs Tourist Office, “as we know that our playground in Les Arcs is naturally safe and our open spaces are our best asset. On top of that, all our staff have been specially trained to be able to deliver a high level of health security.”

More details about all the summer activities in Les Arcs are available on www.lesarcs.com. The lifts will be open from 4th July to 29th August 2020.
