LEITNER Builds Modern Connection In The Spanish Benasque Valley

A major LEITNER project is currently under construction in Spain.

The 10-passenger "Benasque" gondola lift is intended to relieve passenger traffic between Benasque and Cerler year-round starting in the coming winter season and also contribute to the region's tourism development. LEITNER impressed the public tender with its innovative technologies and strong focus on sustainability and efficiency.

The local administration in the Benasque Valley is eagerly awaiting the launch of one of the region's most prestigious projects: The new 10-seater "Benasque" gondola lift will not only play a key role in the further development of tourism, but will also sustainably improve the quality of life of the local population. With the decision to award LEITNER in the public tender, the contract signing in January, and the construction work already underway, this far-sighted investment of nearly €13 million is now gradually becoming a reality.

The new LEITNER cable car will feature a total of 53 premium Diamond EVO cabins, featuring internal ski quivers and bike racks, and will transport up to 2,400 passengers per hour. With a top speed of 6 meters per second, the journey between Benasque and the Cerler ski resort will take just 5 minutes and 47 seconds. This improves connectivity between the two resorts and offers a fast and efficient alternative to current road traffic.

In addition to the direct effects on air quality and tourism, the new cable car will also contribute to positioning the region as a pioneer in environmental and transport policy in the Aragonese Pyrenees and cementing Benasque's role as one of the country's most important mountain destinations. To ensure optimum energy efficiency and sustainability, the new cable car will be equipped with LEITNER DirectDrive and four LeitDrives.
