Lara Gut-Behrami Inspires Children At The Summer Challenge In Thun

Bright eyes and bursting with energy: Over 220 children and young people participated in the Swiss-Ski Summer Challenge in Thun. Lara Gut-Behrami, along with snowboarder Isabelle Lötscher and ski racer Lenz Hächler, was right in the thick of it, creating unforgettable moments. Supported by the dedicated Thun Ski Club, the kids enjoyed a day full of fun, exercise, and team spirit.
In still-summery conditions, the children's and youth teams tackled the various courses of the Swiss-Ski Summer Challenge. A total of 54 groups of four competed for points, medals, and, most importantly, qualification for the grand finale in Menzingen in mid-September. As always, the focus was not only on athletic competition, but also on the joy of exercise, fair play, and the shared experience.
Special visit from Lara Gut-Behrami
A highlight was the visit of ski racer Lara Gut-Behrami. In her role as a Swiss Ski athlete and ambassador for the Ronald McDonald Children's Foundation Switzerland, she deliberately wanted to spend time with the children, cheer them on, and share her enthusiasm for the sport. Gut-Behrami attended the event, signed autographs, encouraged the kids along the track, and even participated in a challenge. Her presence underscored the importance of the event for promoting young talent.
"Events like this are extremely important for children. Instead of sitting at home on the couch, they get out and engage in a variety of sports. This benefits them in every way – even if they never become world champions. And who knows, maybe they will. I was happy to see the children in action and to spend the day with them," explained Gut-Behrami.
Five children's teams from the Ronald McDonald Children's Foundation Switzerland also participated in Thun. They belong to families who find temporary homes in the Ronald McDonald Houses near hospitals – and, as Team Lara, showed off their full commitment at the sports facility in Thun.
Prominent support
In addition to Lara Gut-Behrami, snowboard freestyle athlete Isabelle Lötscher was also there, signing autographs, cheering on children, and becoming part of the atmosphere herself. She rediscovered her passion for unicycling and caused awe in the crowd. Ski racer Lenz Hächler took advantage of his injury break to spontaneously visit the Summer Challenge in Thun—a highlight for the children, who were able to experience it up close.
Thun's mayor, Raphael Lanz, also made sure to attend the event in person and watch the young athletes. Other personalities from Swiss Ski, sports, and politics were also present, contributing to the special atmosphere with their presence.
Great effort by the Ski Club Thun
The Thun Ski Club once again demonstrated its experience as a host, organizing the Swiss-Ski Summer Challenge for the 14th time. With great commitment, the club ensured smooth running and a friendly atmosphere. In addition to executing the eight varied courses, the organizers also took care of a suitable supporting program, catering, and a welcoming atmosphere.
"A fantastic day with so many children – thanks in part to the efforts of the many volunteers. We are very grateful that, together with Swiss-Ski, we, as the Thun Ski Club, can offer the children such a special day," emphasized organizing committee president Roman Schweizer.
A look at the final
With the event in Thun, the Swiss-Ski Summer Challenge has entered the home stretch of the summer season. Following the stop in Couvet (NE) on September 7, the grand finale will take place on September 13 in Menzingen (ZG), where the season's best teams will compete.
