Killington Ends First Season Under New Independent Ownership

After 174 unforgettable days, Killington Resort officially wrapped the 2024/25 ski and snowboard season on Saturday, May 10—once again claiming the title for the longest season in the East. From record-setting snowfall to iconic trail reopenings, a thrilling World Cup, and the first season under local ownership, this year was one for the books.

A Season of Firsts with a Familiar Feel

This was the first winter as an independently owned resort under the leadership of the Killington Independence Group—a collective of local investors deeply rooted in the Killington community. Their promise was clear: reinvest all profits back into the mountain, preserve what makes Killington unique, and build for the future. And they’ve already delivered.

In just one season, the initial $30 million capital improvement plan has grown to $36.5 million. Upgrades this year included maintenance, new equipment, enhancements to our snowmaking system, and the start of replacing the Snowshed surface lift. Most meaningfully, a successful season allowed them to share that success with our team—both seasonal and full-time—through well-earned bonuses.

“It’s great to be independent and I am so proud that our new ownership is sticking to their word and reinvesting in the resort,” said President and CEO Mike Solimano. “It’s been a pleasure working with them and I am excited for the future to see what we can achieve together.”

Snow, Spirit & the Beast

Mother Nature showed up in a big way this season. They recorded 253 inches of snow—the highest total since 2010/11—paired with consistently cold temps that kept the snow light and lasting. With enhanced low-energy snowmaking, they were able to return to classics like Devil’s Fiddle and Vertigo Headwall, using less air and water than ever before.

The spring snow team worked its magic in the Canyon, stacking snow high on Double Dipper and East Fall to carry the area across the finish line in May.

Big Moments & Community Milestones

The energy was palpable all season, none more so than during the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, where record-breaking crowds came to watch Mikaela Shiffrin chase her 100th win. While she didn’t clinch it here, her victory in Italy a few months later was still celebrated by the entire Killington community.

This was also a milestone year for the 100 Day Club, turning 13 with 301 members earning their place in history. They revived the kparks brand, celebrated our terrain park legacy, and were honored to receive the NSAA’s Best Collision Prevention Program award.

Giving Back to the Ski Community

As they celebrated the season’s end, they also paid it forward. Thanks to proceeds from the final day and an additional donation from the resort, $10,000 was donated to Whaleback Mountain to support their new chairlift project. It’s a reminder that the skiing community is just that—a community.

What’s Next: Summer & Beyond
