GraubündenL iftco's Satisfied With The First Half Of The Winter Season

The Graubünden mountain railway companies can look back on a strong January 2024 and an excellent first half of the 2023/24 winter season.

Strong January 2024

The Bündner Bergbahnen recorded an increase in guests of 14.5% in January 2024 compared to the previous year. Compared to the five-year and 10-year averages, the number of guests in January was up by 22.6% and 26.2%, respectively.

The reasons for the positive development are primarily the excellent winter sports conditions, the sunny weather on the weekends and a strong New Year's week.

Excellent first half of the winter season

In the 2023/24 winter season (beginning of the season - end of January), 17% more guests visited the Grisons snow sports areas compared to the previous year and 18% more in the five-year comparison. Compared to the 10-year average, the mountain railway companies even recorded an increase in guests of 22.9%. This development is very encouraging. Lots of sun in the mountains, excellent snow sports conditions, a wide range of high-quality products and positive consumer sentiment have contributed to this development. It can also be seen that the mountain railways emerged stronger from the Corona crisis. Snow sports have increased in value.

Regionally, snow sports areas in particular have shown disproportionate developments that suffered losses last winter due to the challenging snow conditions.

Confidence for the second half of the winter season

Based on the bookings of the accommodation providers, the demand for the beds that the mountain railway companies manage themselves and the purchases in the dynamic pricing systems (those who book early benefit) the Graubünden mountain railways are looking confidently into the second half of the season.
