Several unmissable events await you in Alta Badia this March: Sommelier on the slopes (March 12), Roda dles Saus, a ski safari from March 17-24, taking you on a tasteful journey of everything Ladin and don’t forget the Wine Skisafari on Sunday 24 March.

The winter season 2018/19 ends with the Skicarousel Vintage Party, on April 6 and 7.

Alta Badia (South Tyrolean Dolomites / Italy) - Over the course of the last years, Alta Badia has become the Holy Temple of fine cuisine and perfect slopes for unforgettable skiing in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In light of this, A Taste for Skiing was created: an initiative uniting all events which highlight the winning marriage between skiing and eating. The skiing season will close with three extraordinary events. The event called Sommelier on the slopes will take place on March 12. The Roda dles Saus (The Tour of Taste in Ladin) starts on 17 March and is a ski safari taking tourists on an incredible discovery of traditional Ladin dishes. On Sunday 24 March it’s the turn of the 9th edition of the Wine Skisafari: wine tasting session of the best South Tyrolean wines from a breathtaking 2000m

SOMMELIERS ON THE SLOPES

The 2018-19 winter season includes for the fourth time the event which aims to highlight and teach us all about the best South Tyrolean wines. There is one more possibility to attend the event, on March 12 and it includes beautiful skiing sessions on the slopes of Alta Badia, combined with tasting some of the most refined wines in South Tyrol. The event will be hosted by three mountain huts. Participants will be accompanied by a ski instructor as well as a professional sommelier. The price of the wine tasting session, including the ski guide, is € 30.00 per person. The Sommelier on the slopes is organised by Alta Badia Brand, the IDM, the Consortium Alto Adige Wine and the Sommelier Association South Tyrol.

RODA DLES SAUS: MOUNTAIN HUTS, ANCIENT RECIPES AND GENUINE FOOD FROM MARCH 17 TO MARCH 24

The 6th edition of the Roda dles Saus, the ski safari devoted to the Ladin cuisine and culture, will be held in the ski carousel of La Crusc in Alta Badia. For a whole week, from Sunday 17 March until 24 March, skiers can taste the different dishes which originated in the heart of the Dolomites, paired with the best South Tyrolean wines, skiing from mountain hut to hut. Ladin cuisine, simple yet oh so genuine, is at the center of attention in the mountain huts peppered across the Skitour La Crusc skiing carousel. Every hut has specialized in cooking one Ladin dish, faithfully following Granny’s old handwriting in the recipe book.

Local specialties paired with a South Tyrolean wine shall be served at these mountain huts:

  • Sunday, March 17 – Ütia Lee mountain hut: Buckwheat-Gnocchi with venison ragu and celeriac. Music by Ermes Costa, Accordion World Champion.
  • Tuesday, March 19 – Ütia L’Tamá mountain hut: Crafuns Mori – typical pancake with cranberry jam.
  • Thursday, March 21 – Ütia La Crusc mountain hut: Polenta with deer-goulash.
  • Friday, March 22 – Ütia Paraciora mountain hut: Buckwheat Spätzle with cheese and crispy bacon.
  • Saturday, March 23 – Ütia Nagler mountain hut: Cajincí arestis – typical fried ravioli.

Authentic scenery and genuine, typical dishes. Sun kissed slopes welcome tourists on this food safari, surrounded by breathtaking views, set amongst a sprawling valley covered with forests and Ladin mountain huts. Tourists should also take some time to visit Badia’s Parish Church, the birthplace of Saint Freinademetz and the traditional ‘viles’, the mountain farmsteads of Fussé, Coz and Pransarores, and finish at the suggestive small church of Santa Croce, resting at the feet of the Santa Croce mountain. A perfect family excursion: the Skitour La Crusc, easily reached on skis from Piz La Villa.

DE DL VIN – WINE SKISAFARI AT 2.000 M

Join us on Sunday, 24 March 2019, for an exclusive tasting session of the best South Tyrolean wines  on top of the world. A fitting end for the close of the winter season dedicated to fine cuisine.

South Tyrolean wines stand out for their superb quality, obtained thanks to favorable climate, fertile soil and the care and dedication shown by winemakers. South Tyrolean wine plays a fundamental role in different food and wine initiatives in Alta Badia - and not only in restaurants and mountain huts.

With this 9th edition of the WINE SKISAFARI, Alta Badia wants to dedicate one full day to South Tyrolean wines, with an exclusive tasting session set atop 2000 m. A pleasant day on skis for wine connoisseurs, on a journey to discover the rich variety of South Tyrolean wines. THE SKICAROUSEL VINTAGE PARTY: ON APRIL 6 AND 7 ALTA BADIA MARKS THE END OF THE WINTER SEASON IN A RETRO STYLE

Beautiful long days with sunshine galore and perfect snow - especially during the early hours of the day - offer skiing enthusiasts unforgettable days skiing on the slopes of Alta Badia until 7th April.  Alta Badia has chosen to mark the end of the 2018/19 winter season by organizing again a big party, a new unique retro-style celebration. On Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April, Alta Badia will recreate, both in the valley and on the ski slopes, the atmosphere of a skiing district of times gone by.

On Saturday night, various themed events will take place in the bars and restaurants located on the main street of La Villa, closed to the car traffic. Each bar and participating restaurant will select a vintage period of their choice and convey the atmosphere which reflects that specific period both in the music and décor. The old-fashioned skiing vibe will also be available at 2000m in the refuges, which will offer local traditional cuisine on their menus.

On Sunday, skiers can take part in a vintage skiing competition with bamboo poles on the La Para slope, where one of the last J-bar lifts is still operational. Everyone can take part in the competition, but only old skis are permitted, not carving skis. You sign up for the race on the day of the event.

All participants will be asked to wear retro skiing clothing and use retro skiing equipment for the entire weekend with the aim of creating a "vintage" environment in the entire skiing destination.

This event is a collaboration between the Alta Badia Tourism Board and the Skicarosello Consortium.
