Financial Support Pledged For Skizentrum Mitterdorf From Bavaria's State Ministry Of Economics

Bavaria's Economics and Tourism Minister Hubert Aiwanger has handed over the funding certificate for the modernization of the cable cars in Mitterdorf. The State Ministry of Economics is supporting the total investment of 20 million euros with 5.8 million euros.

Aiwanger said "Cable car systems make a decisive contribution to the attractiveness of a tourist region. They maintain regional value chains and secure jobs in rural areas. With our cable car funding, we do not focus on the winter months, but rely on a modern year-round concept: We only support cable cars, the guests and locals can also use in summer. With this requirement, we take into account the possible effects of climate change with regard to snow reliability and at the same time strengthen the sustainability of tourism throughout the year."

In the Mitterdorf ski center near Philippsreut, the previous double chairlift is to be replaced by a modern 6-seater chairlift and the small Almberg T-bar lift by a 4-seater chairlift. The focus here is on accessibility, child safety and comfort. Increased speed and capacity increases performance. Both tracks will therefore also be suitable for summer use in the future. "With our funding, we are helping to make the Bavarian Forest even more attractive as a year-round holiday area. Skiers and hikers can enjoy their dream leisure time at home, with a short, climate-friendly journey and the money stays in the region," emphasized Aiwanger.

The family ski area around the Almberg (1139 m) is often referred to as the "Glacier of the Bavarian Forest" because of its guaranteed snow. Modern snow cannons on all slopes ensure the best groomed slopes and consistently good snow conditions. The wonderfully located ski area, in which families and beginners in particular feel at home, is generally considered to have reliable snow from Christmas to March.

With a total of 4 drag lifts, a rope lift, 4 magic carpets and a double chair lift, the transport capacity is 10,000 people/h. For cross-country skiers and winter hikers, 23 km of trails as well as ski and winter hiking trails are groomed or rolled. Three ski schools offer alpine, snowboard and cross-country skiing courses for all age groups and ability levels. Ski rental, two ski workshops are available on the slopes and in Mitterfirmiansreut. The municipality has 641 guest beds (hotels, pensions, apartments and holiday homes). 800 car parking spaces and 20 bus parking spaces are free.

The Bavarian Forest is one of the most important holiday destinations in Bavaria. In 2021, more than 1.1 million guests spent their holidays in the region. The number of overnight stays was around 4.7 million.
