Elan Celebrates 75 Years With Retro Graphics

Elan is celebrating 75 years of ski making. Elan is celebrating 75 years of ski making. 75 years is a long time. It is almost impossible to count all the inventions and innovations that were born in Begunje. Elan’s products were always ahead of their time, giving those in the know a glimpse into the future.

The company originated from a Slovene Partisan workshop that operated during the Second World War, when skis were produced for the Yugoslavian Partisan forces.Begunje fielded the only specialized Partisan ski-unit of Yugoslavia during the war. In 1949, the company started with production of small boats, like canoes and kayaks which was later expanded into the production of FRP boats and yachts.

The 1980s were the golden age for Elan in competitive ski racing. At the time, racing legends Ingemar Stenmark, Bojan Križaj, Mateja Svet and others skied to victory on Elan skis. In the winter of 1987, the RC Comprex took the ski world by storm, carving their way to the podium. To commemorate Elan’s 75th anniversary, the legendary RC Comprex is reborn for the celebration.

The RC Comprex inspires two new skis with different characteristics and modern shapes, with the original graphics, but not with the rather clever comprex construction .

Filip Flisar and Glen Plake have chosen models that fit their styles. Filip chose the version based on the SLX that allows him to make carved, connected turns from start to finish without losing energy. Glen, on the other hand, picked the version derived from the Wingman 86 CTi that offers him the freedom and playfulness to handle powder, groomed slopes and everything in between.

A combination of power and energy allows you to explode from one slalom turn to the next with precision on the SLX Fusion. It's retro design is inspired by the RC Comprex X model from the 1987/88 season, gives you a touch of heritage and the highest level of performance.

Carving short and dynamic turns is an art like no other and demands a maximum level of confidence in your gear. The Elan SLX Fusion X delivers this much needed confidence with the use of Arrow Technology. This technology combines the Power Rebound System, a combination of a lifted Fusion X binding system and a fully cambered, carbon infused plate that work in tandem to boost power and rebound at the end of the turn. An arrow shaped layer of titanium loads extra energy to the edges and camber profile for a quick and responsive entry and stability in the turn. The R² FRAME Woodcore, with two-layer titanium construction, allows for direct power transmission, stability and edge control and RST Sidewalls for precision. The end result is an agile short turn ski that will link your slalom turns perfectly the entire run, without losing energy.

The Wingman 86 CTi blends the finesse to tackle off-piste terrain with powerful carving capability, making it your ultimate all-mountain companion. The RC Comprex X design from the 1987/88 season, connects Elan's storied legacy with modern technology and ski shapes.

The widest ski in the Wingman series, the Wingman 86 CTi is the bridge to the Ripstick collection. It's wide enough to explore off piste and crushes groomers from early morning light to afternoon bumps. It rips through soft snow and chews up the hardpack. The laminated woodcore is enhanced with Amphibio Truline, Carbon Rods, and Mono Ti construction for increased stability, responsiveness, and overall performance. The Wingman 86 CTi delivers energy across every turn, in any conditions the mountain has to offer.

The eighties were also recognized for their unique fashion trends. Ski resorts were flooded with neon colors, fitted cuts, and wild styles that exemplified the attitude of skiing. To compliment the RC Comprex throwback graphics, we have prepared a colorful collection of clothing and accessories for skiing and leisure, fitting the design of RC Comprex, to match the retro style of the time-period.
