Doppelmayr APM: Innomotics Supplies Electrical And Automation System For Newark Airport

Doppelmayr has awarded Innomotics GmbH the contract to supply the complete electrical and automation system for the Systems Technology Project – part of the AirTrain Newark Replacement Program – for a new Automated People Mover (APM) at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey (USA). The contract includes the design, engineering, supply, and commissioning of the automatic train control system, audio, video, and communication systems, power distribution systems, ropeway drive equipment, as well as the guide rail and station, train, and maintenance equipment.

The groundbreaking project will be implemented by Innomotics' Austrian branch, which will serve as the headquarters for the Automated People Movers business, supported by Innomotics USA.

Innomotics and Doppelmayr enjoy a deep and long-standing partnership. Over the past 20 years, more than 10 joint reference projects have been successfully completed. The newly signed contract positions Innomotics as the designated subcontractor in the business relationship between Doppelmayr and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) for the Systems Technology Project as part of the AirTrain Newark Replacement Program.

The new AirTrain will cover a four-kilometer (2.5-mile) route and serve millions of passengers annually as the primary means of transport between three passenger terminals, parking and rental car facilities, and regional rail connections. The new AirTrain is designed to transport travelers across the airport sustainably, reliably, autonomously, and safely starting in 2030. The AirTrain will operate around the clock and places the highest demands on the reliability and sustainability of its electrical and automation systems.

"We are proud to be working with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on the development of the new AirTrain Newark. With Innomotics, we have a trusted supplier at our side who has proven its reliability and innovative strength in previous joint projects," said Markus Schrentewein, CEO of Doppelmayr Cable Car GmbH.

Dieter Schletterer, CEO of Innomotics Austria: "This project marks an important milestone for Innomotics. Demand for sustainable and automated transportation solutions is increasing worldwide. Especially at airports, passengers need a solution that operates reliably around the clock. Innomotics has the experience and innovative strength to ensure this."

The AirTrain Newark Replacement Program is an integral component of the EWR Vision Plan, a roadmap for transforming Newark Liberty International Airport into a world-class transportation hub. The Vision Plan builds on the success of the proven new Terminal A and will be integrated with ongoing projects such as the AirTrain Newark Replacement and the Newark Station Access Project to improve access to the airport.
