Countdown To Alta Badia Alpine Ski World Cup Races
The countdown to the long-awaited Alpine Ski World Cup races, which will take place in Alta Badia on Sunday 19 and Monday 20 December 2021, has begun. The number of spectators at the finish line will be limited, according to the current anti-Covid19 regulations.
Alta Badia (South Tyrolean Dolomites-Italy) – The best skiers in the world will compete in Alta Badia, on the Gran Risa slope, in the heart of the Dolomites a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Sunday 19 and Monday 20 December 2021. The ski resort will organize two men's giant slaloms this year, valid for the 2021 Alpine Ski World Cup. The athletes will compete curve after curve on one of the most technical slopes of the entire Ski World Cup, from the start at 1868m to the finish at 1420m.
The 36th edition will also be different from the others, but equally fascinating and full of adrenaline-filled moments. The current situation allows for an event with a limited number of spectators at the finish line, accordingly to the regulations, linked to the ongoing pandemic. Alta Badia is working hard again this year to ensure maximum security for the athletes, their teams, media representatives and everyone involved. Those who are unable to follow their heroes directly at the foot of the Gran Risa can cheer them on from home, as both races will be broadcast worldwide. Simply log on at 10.00 a.m. for the first race and at 1.30 p.m. for the second race, both days.
THE 2021 TROPHIES: A HYMN TO NATURE
The trophies, which will be awarded to the top three, will once again this year be the work of artist Daniele Basso, author of the GIGANT sculpture, installed at the start of the Gran Risa slope for the 30th anniversary of the event and assisted by the local carpentry company Bernardi. "The 2021 trophies," explains Basso, "in the simplicity of steel meeting wood, a living and emotional material, celebrate the return to nature and to a more conscious relationship with the environment. Values that have always been present in sport, and even more so in skiing. Values that are now more important than ever for rethinking man's future on earth, and imagining a sustainable and better future in which to live".
ALTA BADIA SKI WORLD CUP: A FUNDAMENTAL PULL FOR WINTER TOURISM
The Alpine Ski World Cup races entered the heart of the residents of Alta Badia and the whole South Tyrol in the year 1985. The event has grown year after year, becoming an icon for the location, and making the location itself a reference point for ski lovers. "Never before has the reopening of the ski resorts been as certain as it is now, and the live TV coverage will serve to confirm with life images the state of the snow on the slopes in Alta Badia and the much-promised opening of the winter season, although conditioned by a number of non-invasive safety restrictions." reveals Andy Varallo, President of the Alpine Ski World Cup Alta Badia.
SUNRISA: SKIING AT DAWN ON FRESH SNOW, BEFORE ENJOYING A HEARTY BREAKFAST AT 2,000M
Skiing on fresh snow, before anyone else, is a truly unique experience. The experience becomes even more magical if you do it in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on Alta Badia's slopes, where the best athletes will be going head-to-head at the Alpine Skiing World Cup during the same period, all topped off with an excellent breakfast at 2,000 m a.s.l.
On Monday 20th December, the ski slopes on the plateau of Alta Badia will be opening at dawn, giving ski enthusiasts the chance to see the sun rise at 2,000 m a.s.l. and ski down the slopes that have been perfectly prepared the night before by the many snowcats that work in the area. What’s more, there is the chance to enjoy a hearty breakfast, based on genuine and healthy products, at the Club Moritzino, Ütia I Tablá, Ütia de Bioch, Ütia Piz Arlara and Ütia Las Vegas mountain huts. Each hut will be paired with a specific breakfast item, such as milk, cereal, eggs or fruits. The various dishes on offer have been created with the support of the nutritionist Dott. Iader Fabbri and they contain the essential ingredients for a perfect breakfast, guaranteeing the right number of calories and nutrition for each leg of the breakfast route from one mountain hut to another.
