Big snow storms hit the Alps bringing the best start to winter at many resorts for years 
Crans-Montana, Switzerland

Opening date: this weekend, Saturday November 29

Snow conditions: 30cm’s of snow has fallen on the upper slopes and 20cm’s on the lower slopes over the past 24hrs, on top of what was already there. Good conditions are expected on-piste this weekend.

Statement: “Conditions in Crans-Montana are looking great for the start of the winter season, the best in years. We have had fresh snowfall turning the resort and the mountain white, even down to the valley. There’s also more snow in the forecast and the cold weather looks here to stay".

Les Gets, France

Opening date: Saturday December 13 (there’s a possibility it might be brought forward)

Snow conditions: There’s an average of around 50cm’s of snow cover on the mountain.

Statement: “We have great snow right down to the village of Les Gets and this is going to be the best conditions for the start of the season for a number of years.”

Les 3 Vallées, France

Opening date: Val Thorens, already opened on November 22. Meribel, Courchevel and Les Menuires planned opening 5/6 December.

Snow conditions: Upper slopes have up to 130cm’s at the top and 80cm’s at the base – there’s great snow cover across the whole of Les 3 Vallées area right now.
Statement: “There’s already skiing and snowboarding available in Les 3 Vallées with a great base and more snow to come. It’s looking very good across the whole area and the resorts are planning to open as scheduled”.

Jungfrau Ski Region, Switzerland

Opening date: this weekend, Saturday November 29 (Kleine Scheidegg area), Männlichen from December 13, Grindelwald First from December 20.

Snow conditions: around 30cm’s of snow has fallen in the past 24hrs, with around 80cms of snow on the upper slopes of the Wengen-Kleine Scheidegg area.

Statement: “The ski area opens this weekend and conditions are excellent for late November with very cold temperatures forecast to stay and more snow to come over the next week”.

SkiWeekends, tour operator with Chalets in Avoriaz, Les Gets, Courchevel and Val d’Isere

Opening date: SkiWeekends has chalets now available and operating in Avoriaz and Val d’Isere, with Les Gets and Courchevel dates starting as the ski areas open.

Statement: Dan Fox from SkiWeekends, said: “This is the best start to the winter season we have seen in years and here in Avoriaz right now the snow is up to our waist outside the chalets and we can’t keep up with the amount that’s falling. We have guests arriving soon and they are in for a treat. The best thing of all is that more snow is forecast and the temperatures are remaining cold. I’m heading over to Val d’Isere next week where our four new ski-in-ski-out chalets are ready welcome the first guests of the winter”.
