Applications Open For 26th Edition Of International Matteo Baumgarten Award

For the 26th time, the Baumgarten family is inviting young athletes to apply for the International Matteo Baumgarten Award, an annual prize that commemorates the life of their son Matteo Baumgarten by recognising young athletes who are completing their studies and education while competing at high level in a FIS Olympic disciplines.

In 1996, the Baumgarten family suffered the tragic loss of their son Matteo Baumgarten in a car accident. He had shown great promise as a future Alpine World Cup skier and balanced his training regime with a determination to succeed in his education. The loss of beloved son motivated the Baumgarten family to remember him by recognising those athletes that share his life’s path.

All FIS member National Ski Associations have been invited to enter up to three athletes (male or female) between 18 and 24 years-old.

This year para-athletes can be as well nominated for the International Matteo Baumgarten Award. Applications can be sent directly to Dimitrije Lazarovski at lazarovski@fisski.com until 28th February 2023.

The International Matteo Baumgarten award is held in very high regard. Previous winners include Tanja Poutiainen (FIN), Tina Maze (SLO), Bernadette Schild (AUT), Marco Odermatt (SUI) and Ramon Zenhäusern (SUI). We encourage you to be part of this great occasion.
