Almabtrieb In Zillertal - The ‘Moo’sic Arrives

"Aufbüscheln" is the name of the game when Susi, Bella, Sissi - by the way the top 3 cownames in 2018 - with their gorgeous headdress made of fir green, silver thistles and ribbons, pull their way towards the valley. From the middle of September, the ringing of the cowbells fills the first holiday region in the Zillertal four times: Fügen Kohlerhof (14th September), Fügen Dorf (21st September), Stumm (28th September) and Hart (5th October).

Autumn tradition in the First Holiday Region in the Zillertal
In September, not only the leaves in bright colors, but also the cows shine. Time to "break up" the meadows and to walk into the valley to spend the winter at the farm. With a big bell around his neck, the lead cow leads the herd safely down from the mountain. A spectacle that year after year is watched enthusiastically by spectators from all over the world, who await the decorated animals with music, traditional dancing and Zillertal fritters. In the First Holiday Region in Zillertal, four different cattle drives delight young and old alike. Traditionally, the Almabtrieb celebrates the safe return of animals and dairymen and the summer is passed. "The Almabtrieb plays a very special role for us in the Zillertal and is an absolute highlight for the visitors, vacationers and guests.

At Hotel Kohlerhof in Fügen there will be a petting zoo and a colorful children's program on the 14th of September from 10.00 am. On the 21st of September things are getting busy: at the cattle drive in the village of Fügen, the animals will be moving through the center in several groups starting at 11.30. A varied supporting program with market stalls, music groups, plenty of melchermuas and donuts make the event one of the largest cattle drives in the Zillertal. A week later on September 28, the traditional Almabtrieb in Stumm takes place, including Zillertal specialties and Schuhplattler. Hart makes it a bit different in the Zillertal - on 5 October, the herd will march into the valley, but will not go directly to the local stables, but will stay at the Moarhof on-site.
