Action Sports Park Divert Sessions Lands At Mainplace Mall In Santa Ana This Summer

DIVERTsessions — an exciting new outdoor action sports, creative education and entertainment venue launching at MainPlace Mall in Santa Ana for an initial three-month run this summer — begins construction. A grand opening event is targeted for the weekend of July 16.

Launching on the tail end of a year of social isolation, and right before the first summer Olympics to host skateboarding and surfing, DIVERTsessions aims to bring the life lessons and positive community of action sports and creative culture to everyone, at one convenient location. The park, an outdoor 45,000 square-foot venue, features six key components: a surf machine, skatepark, ski/snow hill, a creative education studio, a food and beverage program and an event venue.

Guests can ski or snowboard on a 15-foot-high, 100-foot-long Ski and Snowboard Hill, catch the perfect wave in the FlowRider Wave Machine, learn new tricks in the skatepark area where movable obstacles are constantly changing to keep lines fresh and exciting, or participate in a Creative Lab session where they can explore different creative outlets and develop skills such as videography/photography, music production, digital and street art.

For friends, family and chaperones who would rather watch the action and grab a bite or drink, Spectator Passes are free for a limited time between June 26 and July 16. Spectator passes grant access to viewing, dining, brand showcases and other experiences in public areas within the park.

Those that want to check out DIVERTsessions and get in on the action can buy one-, two-, three- or four-hour session passes, which include access to all the sports and creative attractions as well as the lending of equipment necessary to participate. Session passes start at $29.99 Monday-Thursday and $34.99 Friday-Sunday.

Snow Hill Never thought you would be able to ski/snowboard in the middle of the city? DIVERTsessions is about to change all that. Standing at over 20-feet high and over 100-feet long, the Ski and Snowboard Hill is guaranteed to be a memorable experience for all riders. The Snow Hill features industry leading synthetic snow material from ProSlope and has three different “runs” – beginner, intermediate and advanced. Rotating out freestyle features in the intermediate and advanced lines keeps things fresh and exciting. Session passes include skis/snowboards, boots and binding, pending size availability.
Wave Machine Never thought you could surf in the concrete jungle? Now you can at DIVERT. The Wave Machine, designed by FlowRider, the world leader in artificial wave technology, offers those with a passion for surfing the opportunity to test and grow their skills, no matter their skill level. Guests can surf (standing on a board) and boogie board (laying on a board) depending on their level of experience.
Skatepark Want to learn or level up your skate or scooter skills? The DIVERTsessions Skatepark is designed for skateboards, scooters, and rollerblades, and is made to support riders of all skill levels. During special events, guests will be able to participate in other activities such as BMX biking and more. DIVERTsessions Guides are always present to help guests learn new tricks and ensure participant safety. Additionally, the DIVERTsessions skatepark has an automated content capture system, so that guests can rewatch and share their session from the day. Please note DIVERTsessions does not offer rollerblades as part of your ticket at this time, only skateboards and scooters; however, guests are more than welcome to bring their own.
Creative Lab Ready to learn or improve on your next creative skill? DIVERTsessions’ Creative Lab features Open Sessions where you can drop-in and create freely or you can check out one of our many guided skills sessions in music, art, photography, videography and much more. The purpose is to give guests a place to explore their creativity in whatever direction they choose. All Creative Sessions include the necessary materials and technology with the purchase of each session ticket (pending availability) unless otherwise instructed.
Food and Beverage DIVERTsessions is partnering with local restaurants and food trucks to bring rotating food options to the park and support local businesses. DIVERTsessions will also have a number of healthy and replenishing drinks available so guests can grab a bite, a beverage, and settle in, because it’s always après hour at DIVERTsessions!
Event and Concert Stage From concerts and contests to educational programming and movie premiers, the DIVERTsessions stage and central area between the major participation and experience areas can turn into a safe and socially distant event venue that allows for education and entertainment to be an everyday part of the DIVERTsessions experience.
