Dubbed ‘Fishmas’ the last Saturday of April each year marks the opening of fishing season in Mammoth Lakes. The fishing spots that are open for the first day of the season can vary each year, depending on snow and ice melt, but between the waters that are open year-round and the lakes at lower-elevations, there's always a spot for fishers to drop a line. From May 21-25 Mammoth Lakes hosts five days of independent narratives, documentaries and shorts produced by well-known and up-and-coming names in the film industry. Whether visitors are movie buffs or just enjoy a night at the movies, the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival is the perfect excuse for a weekend of outdoor adventure alongside exciting new movies. Attendees can buy tickets for individual screenings, or a movie pass for up to 15 screenings. In addition to a packed schedule of films, the weekend includes filmmaker parties where visitors can meet some of the creatives behind the productions.
