Snow Prophet: SIS ECO Award 2025 Goes To Lumiosys Gmbh

The SIS ECO Award, endowed with €7,500, was presented to the Tyrolean start-up lumiosys GmbH in 2025. The company was honored at the DSV annual conference in Rottach-Egern for the development of the AI-based snow management system "Schneeprophet." The software supports ski resorts in resource-efficient and precise planning of artificial snowmaking by intelligently combining modern snow research and digital technology. Based on the latest weather forecasts and measurement and snowmaking data from the respective ski resort, piste conditions are forecast in detail – ensuring optimal snow conditions with minimal resource consumption.
In his laudatory speech, Prof. Dr. Ralf Roth of the German Sport University Cologne and board member of SIS praised "Snow Prophet" as a scientifically sound innovation with high appeal and significant benefits: a successful combination of digitalization, artificial intelligence, resource efficiency, and sustainable future design. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Strasser and Dr. Michael Warscher accepted the award on behalf of their development team and announced that they would use the prize money to further develop precise evaluation methods.
The award winners were selected following a student pre-screening and a scientific review by the DSV Advisory Board for Environment and Sustainable Skiing Development. The awards ceremony took place on May 11, 2025, during the DSV Annual Conference in Rottach-Egern.
