A Record Winter On The Pizol

With 260,000 first-time visitors, the Pizolbahnen recorded the most successful winter season in their company's history. This result represents a significant increase of 13% in guest numbers compared to the equally strong previous winter.

The decisive factors were a large portion of fortunate weather, consistently good slope conditions, and new adventure offerings that were very well received by the market. In chronological order, this included a brilliant start to the season, a strong January with exceptionally busy weekends, a busy holiday season through March, and a final part of the season that, despite changeable weather, offered enjoyable spring skiing. This year's winter season ends next Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Historically unique good weather conditions over the turn of the year

What conditions would the mountain railways hope for during this crucial period? Sufficient snow, a cloudless sky, and mild temperatures for plenty of visits to the terraces of the mountain inns. All of this came true, and the good weather continued consistently until well into the New Year. It wasn't just a few peak days, but a sequence of many good days throughout this crucial period.

High demand in the holiday month of February

The Pizolbahnen are particularly pleased with their February results. Consistently strong demand from day visitors combined with high occupancy rates at the mountain's accommodations led to this top result. The numerous snow sports camps held on the mountain and the renewed growth in business with clubs and companies also contributed to this. This guest segment is benefiting measurably from the ongoing pent-up demand following the pandemic-era low-event years.

Excellent piste conditions despite little natural snow

Precipitation remained below average throughout the winter. There was no heavy snowfall, but a little extra snow always arrived at the right time, ensuring wintry days. For the first time since the expansion of the snowmaking system, the Pizolbahnen are benefiting from the additional water supply from the new reservoir and the newly installed piste sections. Had these artificial snowmaking options not been available during this winter with so little snow, both the capacity and revenue would have been noticeably lower. This winter in particular has demonstrated how important and correct the decision to expand or rebuild the snowmaking system was. A further stage of this ambitious project will be realized next summer.

Mountain summer is approaching

As early as Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Pizolbahnen cable cars will kick off the hiking and excursion season with daily operation of the Bad Ragaz-Pardiel gondola lift, and from Saturday, June 28, 2025, all lifts will be open daily. In addition to the 5-Lakes Hike, the absolute hiking highlight, guests can enjoy many other hiking and excursion experiences. A special summer offering is the new "Alpine Cinema." Although not a traditional cinema, the new reservoir near the Pizolhütte offers a spectacular setting that more than deserves the name "Alpine Cinema." The newly designed low-water area, spacious benches, and a "selfie bridge" that extends into the glittering Twärchamm reservoir invite you to pause and slow down. Families especially look forward to the Heidi Trail, the Water Forest on the Furt, and the Mounteens Detective Trail. The mountain carts and alpine scooters allow for fast descents into the valley in an incomparable mountain scenery, even in summer.
