FIS Nordic Combined & Ski Jumping Events Coming To The US December

Western U.S. will be a buzz with International Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping athletes this winter.

Steamboat Springs, CO and Park City, UT are proud to play co-hosts to the International Ski Federation (FIS) Continental Cup for Nordic Combined and FIS Cup for Ski Jumping (Utah only) for ladies and men. The Continental Cup Nordic Combined events will be the first International events for Women contested in North America.

Dec.14th through the 20th, 2018 will find the international field in Steamboat Springs with Park City receiving them right after for Dec.18th through the 20th.

Russia and China are among the international teams sending their best to compete against USA Nordic’s roster overflowing with veteran and young talent.  The competitions are strategic athletic events for USA Nordic athletes. Continental Cup has historically proven successful for USA Nordic Combined to move athletes up to the World Cup while the FIS Cup is an essential stepping stone for USA Nordic Ski Jumping athletes to make the jump to Continental Cup.

Standing on podiums has been a repetitive activity for USA Nordic athlete Tara Geraghy-Moats from the New York Sports Education Foundation (NYSEF) who will represent the the US in the first Continental Cups in North America. Her teammate, Ben Loomis, of the Flying Eagles Ski Club out of Eau Clair, WI was the first American in over 15 years to medal in an individual World Junior Championships event last season in Kandersteg, Switzerland.

Volunteerism runs strong in these two towns and in concert with experienced venue staff these adjoined sports communities are thrilled to extend an invitation around the world to come compete in this FIS Continental Cup.

Speaking about the world class event, Billy Demong, USA Nordic Executive Director and Nordic combined Olympic Champion said, “We are ecstatic to be hosting the first FIS events for Women’s Nordic Combined in North America. It’s great to bring the World here for these events, which play a critical role in developing our Junior National and National Team, and also let our young, developing skiers in the clubs get a taste of what it takes to be among the best in the world.”

Invitations have been blasted out, registrations are flooding in and spectators, sponsors and sports enthusiasts all over the continent are marking their calendars.
