Dave Duncan Retires From Canada Ski Cross Team

Dave Duncan, 36, from London, ON, member of the Canadian Ski Cross Team is announcing his official retirement from Alpine Canada.

Dave strapped on skis at the age of three and has had a career journey filled with great results, injuries, recoveries and successes. Switching from alpine to ski cross in 2007, Dave has been a member of the Canada ski cross Team since its inception that led to 2 Olympic starts. He placed 8th at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, 26th in the 2014 Sochi Winter Games and was sidelined at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games when he was forced to withdraw due to injury 2 days before the finals. To summarize his career highlights; Dave won 2 medals, silver and bronze, at the 2010 and 2012 X Games. He reached seven World Cup Podiums, three World Championships starts and accumulated a total of 87 World Cup starts in his entire ski cross career. One of his memorable performances was in 2014 when Duncan was the first male athlete to capture double gold in a double-race event (Innichen, Italy).

Committed to his sport, Dave also worked with the FIS to help promote safety awareness after teammate and childhood friend Nic Zoricic passed away during a World Cup in 2012. A contribution to raise awareness about safety measures in ski cross that he feels was important to help grow the sport and ensure this type of tragedy doesn't occur again.

Looking back on his career, Dave can be proud of all his accomplishments. “I am thankful for the career I've had and what has been accomplished from teammates and coaches continually pushing me beyond what I thought possible. It has been an incredible journey, beyond my wildest dreams.” says Duncan.

His skiing started at Boler Mountain in London, ON, followed by the National Ski Academy in Collingwood, then brought him to the Ontario Team before accepting a scholarship to the University of Alaska, Anchorage. That’s where he graduated with a BS in Aviation Technology. Following his successful ski cross days, Dave is now ready to move on to another life episode and will now pursue a career in accounting to become a CPA.

Alpine Canada and the Ski Cross Team wishes Dave Duncan the best of luck for the next life chapter and whatever the future holds. Thank you for your dedication, passion and proudly competing for your country.
